What Does Your Lumber Really Cost?
Measurement Methods and It's Effect on Cost

True Tally

Net Tally – Measured by piece
A.Thickness x B.Width” x C.Length’/12= BF

Most accurate form of measure

Jackel Enterprises has adopted the above method of lumber measurement. We feel it is the most honest measurement for material giving you, the customer, a far superior value for your dollar.

Not True Tally

Gross Tally – Measured by piece
A. Thickness x B.Width” x C.Length’/12 + 10%-15% Air

Quick, inaccurate form of measure

Ask for yourself! When inquiring elsewhere about a talley of lumber, find out how it is done. From there you can calculate the amount of "pad" or air you might be buying. Is the price for the talley an accurate price of the lumber in the talley?

The National Hardwood Lumber Association rules recommend tally before straightline. The Buyer pays for straighlining as a mill work service. Lumber loss is absorbed by the customer varying from 2% - 20% depending on equipment, operator and condition of lumber.
